Research Grants


SLSLM-LiMeRA Trainee Research Grants Program for medical students and junior doctors is under way. Applications opening in mid-December 2022.

Our newly established SLSLM-LiMeRA Trainee Research Grants Program is aimed to encourage and facilitate the conduct of original research activities relevant to lifestyle medicine among medical students and junior doctors. Furthermore, we aim to provide mentoring to engage in research activities.

Eligibility

1. Trainees must be either a 3rd/4th year local medical student (public university) or a junior doctor in postgraduate year 1-3 (i.e., 1 to 3 years after graduation). 

2. Research projects must focus on an intervention or exposure that is aligned with at least one of the six pillars of lifestyle medicine (i.e., a whole-food, plant-based eating pattern, physical activity, restorative sleep, stress management, avoid harmful substances, and positive social connection).

3. Cross sectional analyses are also considered for grants as long as they are primarily centered around at least one of the six pillars of lifestyle medicine.

Prerequisites and overall requirements

1. Research grants may be used for any expenses associated with the research project, including, but not limited to, data collection, intervention supplies and materials, educational materials, data access fees, or to facilitate conducting a systematic review or other secondary analysis project.

2. Research grants may be used to fund new or active research projects that are smaller in scope.

 

3. An advisor/board member of LiMeRA will serve in the role of a mentor to the awardees.

 

4. Awardee will be required to participate in two mentoring meetings with the mentor.

 

5. Awardee must be closely and actively engaged in the project, in the capacity of a co-investigator, research assistant, data analyst, or other similar role. 

 

6. Awardee must be the first author on any planned poster presentations or publications for which award funds are directly used.

 

7. Research grant should be spent within 12 months.
